Devastated

Vincent D. Feldman at PSoPVincent D. Feldman, Dignity for the Devastated, Photographic Society of Philadelphia at The Plastic Club, 247 South Camac Street, Philadelphia, Tuesday, September 16th at 7:00pm, Guests are welcome.

Vincent D. Feldman author of City Abandoned: Charting the Loss of Civic Institutions in Philadelphia speaks about his photography at the monthly membership meeting of the Photographic Society of Philadelphia at The Plastic Club.

Vincent D. Feldman, a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, has been photographing architecture and the urban landscape for three decades. In the early 1990s his photography came to concentrate on the conflicts and questions that often surround historic buildings in Philadelphia. Feldman’s photography helps uncover the stories attached to buildings, thus revealing the nature of the societies in which these structures were built—and then neglected.

Feldman received a Pew Fellowship in the Arts in 2001. His work is held in the Philadelphia Museum of Art and in museums and private collections internationally. He is a Master Lecturer in photography at the University of the Arts.” – Vincent D. Feldman website

“The Photographic Society of Philadelphia is the oldest active photography society in the country. We have been looking at the world through the camera lens since 1860!”

Since 1897, The Plastic Club has been devoted to the promotion and preservation of the visual (plastic) arts in Philadelphia. The busy gallery schedule offers several annual exhibitions for members and non-members, as well as invited artists in solo and group exhibitions. Members include well-known Philadelphia artists.”

The Photographic Society of Philadelphia will be presenting their annual members exhibition at The Plastic Club in October 2014.

Me

Home Fine Art and FramingAll of a sudden my artwork is everywhere! Today is the artist reception for Home Fine Art and Framing Gallery at 2 Church Street, Mount Holly, NJ 08060 (609) 261-8634. I was invited by the irrepressible Ben Cohen and proprietor Kathryn Spear to be a guest artist. I have three photographic prints and a digital print of QR codes that links to websites, animated gif and videos.

Thanks to Pauline Jonas and Jeff Stroud my photography is included in the Photographic Society of Philadelphia group show at Galleria Deptford, 1011 Cooper Street, Deptford NJ. Read my review of the show on DoNArTNeWs here.

The Plastic Club small WORLDS 2014 show includes a basket of five one sheet books. Three of the books were originally included in the 110 Church Gallery RiTUAL Reading Room show. Read my review of the show here. I created two more books including a tribute to my beautiful Lady Doofus, the St. Bernard/Chihuahua who passed away almost two years ago, I was inspired to write the story because kids in my neighborhood still ask where Beethoven is which makes me very happy.small WORLDS 2014, The Plastic ClubPhoto by Morris Klein at small WORLDS 2014 at The Plastic Club

Daniel Reilly – PSoP Photographer – Trippin’ Around the World

Daniel Reilly - Fire Dance

Fire Dance, Ubud Bali, Indonesia“, Daniel Reilly @ Bonte’s, 130 S. 17th, Philadelphia.

World traveler, photographer Daniel Reilly‘s current one-person show @ Bonte’s Cafe, 17th & Walnut, offers unique vistas, alluring compositions, mysterious visions and one-of-a-kind perspectives that only an artist could see – all in pristine black & white and color photos.  Each photograph is a glimpse into a part of the world that many of us may never experience –  from a birds eye view of Argentine street Tango dancers to haunting groundhog views of the ancient Greek Parthenon to quirky over the shoulder shots of Tibetan monks passing a can of Coke.  A native Philadelphian, Reilly taught English in Buenos Aires for more than three years – the locals wanted to learn American slang such as, “Stop busting my balls!” – ah, pop culture’s influence, who knew?  Daniel was a witness to the 2002 riot at the Pink Palace, he actually ran towards the scene after grabbing his camera only to high-tail it away when police on horseback came rushing towards him.

In San Francisco Reilly worked for a TV station, then spent nine months in Hawaii, on to the islands of Fiji, a tour of New Zealand, Australia, Bali, Indonesia, Lombak, Gili Islands, Singapore, Bangkok Thailand, Athens Greece – Reilly spent two years in Summer!  Daniel told DoN the best time of his life was spent in Croatia.  But, Reilly always come home to family in Philly.  A recent member of the Photographic Society of Philadelphia, the show at Bonte’s is one of Daniel’s first one-person shows even though he’s been an event photographer for years with a catalog of over 30,000 images.  Maybe that’s why the selection of pictures @ Bonte’s are so choice – some of the archivally matted and framed prints have already sold; DoN suggests you start to collect Reilly now before the prices go up.
